Ohio Teaching Certificate Programs

Below you’ll find a comprehensive listing of the Graduate Teaching Certificate programs available from schools in Ohio. If you’re looking for initial teacher certification programs, check out either our list of Bachelors in Education Programs or Ohio Alternative Certification Programs. Most of the programs down below are for people who are already teachers.

If you are currently licensed to teach in Ohio and speak a foreign language, you may want to consider obtaining an add-on certificate in teaching a foreign language. Ohio currently needs foreign language teachers. In fact, a brochure published by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Foreign Language Association states that of 106 recent foreign language teacher openings, only 99 were filled. The brochure also notes that future openings are likely. Of course, if you don’t speak a foreign language, you can also obtain an add-on or advanced certificate in another area to increase the number of subject areas that you are eligible to teach.

Schools Offering Teaching Certificates in Ohio

At Baldwin-Wallace College, students can earn a certificate in Secondary Education, which will allow them to teach foreign language in high school. While the school offers a number of night programs for already-working students, some required foreign language classes take place during the day. Antioch University Midwest offers programs in special education – a U.S. Department of Education shortage area for Ohio – as well as a Gifted Education Certification. A Gifted Education Certification will prepare Ohio teachers to offer individual programs for gifted students. Finally, already-licensed Ohio teachers can earn an add-on certificate in Intervention Specialist for Students with Mild/Moderate Disabilities from Miami University of Ohio. This certificate can be obtained completely online.
