Arkansas Teaching Certificate Programs

Below you’ll find a comprehensive listing of the Graduate Teaching Certificate programs available from schools in Arkansas. If you’re looking for initial teacher certification programs, check out either our list of Bachelors in Education Programs or Arkansas Alternative Certification Programs. Most of the programs down below are for people who are already teachers.

Arkansas public schools have many teacher shortage areas to fill. According to the U.S. Department of Education, Arkansas schools need teachers, in particular, who can instruct gifted students and special education students. They also need teachers in core areas, including math, English, science, foreign language and social studies. Teachers are in demand at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels, with most teachers needed in the middle grades. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Arkansas employed around 6,800 middle school teachers in May 2010. Teachers looking to fulfill areas of need in Arkansas may consider earning an add-on certificate in middle school education or in another teacher shortage area.

Schools Offering Teaching Certificates in Arkansas

At Southern Arkansas University, students can earn an add-on certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The U.S. Department of Education noted that that endorsement is currently in demand in Arkansas. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock provides an add-on certificate program in teaching advanced placement. There are less than five programs like this one in the entire U.S., so Arkansas teachers looking to fulfill the state’s need for teachers of exceptional learners may want to enroll. Finally, the University of Central Arkansas offers a unique advanced graduate certificate designed to prepare educators to become instructional facilitators or coaches. The program was developed specifically to meet Arkansas standards for this position, and students who enter the program can apply its credits toward a graduate degree.
