Below you’ll find a comprehensive listing of the Graduate Teaching Certificate programs available from schools in Oklahoma. If you’re looking for initial teacher certification programs, check out either our list of Bachelors in Education Programs or Oklahoma Alternative Certification Programs. Most of the programs down below are for people who are already teachers.
If you’re already a certified teacher, but you’re looking to switch grade levels or content areas, then an advanced certificate program may be a good bet. Add-on certificates give you new training and qualifications that can make you more marketable, but don’t require the same time or financial commitment as master’s or doctoral degree programs.
In Oklahoma, an add-on certificate may qualify you to teach in one of the state’s shortage areas. The U.S. Department of Education has identified shortages of teachers for early childhood, math, music, science, and social studies. Teachers who earn these certifications may be able to defer some or all of their loans by teaching in a shortage area.
A certificate could also prepare you to make a switch into an in-demand area like special education or teaching English to speakers of other languages. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are more than 4,700 special education teachers in Oklahoma, making salaries averaging around $2,000 more per year than the salaries of teachers of other subjects.
