Georgia Teaching Certificate Programs

Below you’ll find a comprehensive listing of the Graduate Teaching Certificate programs available from schools in Georgia. If you’re looking for initial teacher certification programs, check out either our list of Bachelors in Education Programs or Georgia Alternative Certification Programs. Most of the programs down below are for people who are already teachers.

During the 2011-2012 school year teachers have been in demand in the areas of math, science, Spanish and special education. Much of that demand is a result of teachers who lack certification in the subject area they are teaching. For example, during the 2007-2008 school year, about 44 percent of elementary special education teachers and about 21 percent of math teachers in the state were not actually certified in their disciplines. With an add-on certificate, you can be considered highly qualified in a subject area, making it more likely that you will obtain or keep a job in that area.

At Berry College, Georgia teachers can earn an add-on certificate in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The Georgia Department of Education notes that almost 67,000 non-native speakers attended Georgia schools in 2007, so Georgia educators in all subject areas should consider the benefits of an ESOL certificate. Georgia College also offers an ESOL add-on certificate, along with add-on certificates in Educational Leadership, Library Media, and Reading. The university’s classes offer a blended format of virtual and on-campus courses. Finally, the University of Georgia’s College of Education offers a few unique add-on certificates. In addition to an ESL and world languages add-on, the college offers a certificate in Reading, Writing, Children’s Literature, and Digital Literacy.
