Southern New Hampshire University was founded in 1932 as the New Hampshire School of Accounting and Secretarial Science. It was founded by H.A.B. Shapiro. Throughout the years, the scope of programs at the university expanded, eventually growing into four schools: the School of Business, the School of Community Economic Development, the School of Education and the School of Liberal Arts. In addition, in 2007, the school became the first carbon-neutral university in New Hampshire.
