The University of Arkansas at Little Rock offers its 13,000 students more than 100 programs of study in six colleges and the Bowen School of Law. Founded in 1927 as Little Rock Junior College, today the campus is home to a learning resource center, art galleries, radio and television stations, and a speech and hearing clinic. The library contains about 400,000 volumes, 700,000 microform items, 8,300 audiovisual forms and CDs, 2,625 periodical subscriptions, and a number of computerized services. Special centers include the Center for Applied Studies in Education, the Center for Arkansas Studies, and the Center for Public Collaboration.
Teacher Education at University of Arkansas at Little Rock
The College of Education at University of Arkansas at Little Rock has been accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education since 1971 and is composed of the departments of Counseling Adult and Rehabilitation Education, Educational Leadership, and Teacher Education. The College is home to four centers – the Academic Success Center, CASE, the Center for Gifted Education, and the Center for Literacy – and maintains several partnerships, including the Renaissance Group, a national consortium of universities dedicated to educator preparation. In addition, UALR is one of four universities in the state to participate in Teachers of Tomorrow, a high school outreach program.
