Located in Huntsville, AL, the University of Alabama in Huntsville was founded as part of the University of Alabama in 1950 and later became an independent campus within the system in 1969. The University enrolls 7,400 undergraduate and 1,500 graduate students in 61 degree-granting programs – 30 bachelor’s programs, 18 master’s programs, and 13 Ph.D. programs. The school’s degrees are awarded through the colleges of Business Administration, Liberal Arts, Engineering, Nursing, and Science. Research centers include the Aerophysics Research Center, Center for Applied Optics, Earth System Science Center, Center for the Management of Science and Technology, and the Humanities Center.
Teacher Education at The University of Alabama in Huntsville
The Department of Education at the University of Alabama in Huntsville offers programs in collaboration with the colleges of Liberal Arts and Science, as well as local schools, to offer its undergraduate teacher programs in Elementary, Secondary, and P-12 education. Secondary Education concentrations include biology, chemistry, English language arts, foreign language, history/social studies, mathematics, and physics. Graduate programs include both nontraditional fifth-year programs and traditional advanced programs, and added endorsements in Collaborative Special Education and Middle School. The Department maintains partnerships with Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County Schools, as well as with several K-12 programs.
