Located in Birmingham, AL, Samford University has more than 4,600 students enrolled in 138 majors, minors and concentrations. Programs are offered through the School of the Arts, the Howard College of Arts and Sciences, the Brock School of Business, the Beeson Divinity School, the Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education and Professional studies, the Cumberland School of Law, the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing, and the McWhorter School of Pharmacy. The university is ranked among the top national doctoral research universities in the nation, and is the largest privately supported institution for higher learning in Alabama. Founded in 1841, the school also offers pre-professional programs in Law, Health, Medicine, and Ministerial studies.
Teacher Education at Samford University
The Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education & Professional Studies at Samford University is composed of the departments of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine, Family Studies, Interior Design, Adult Degree Program, Paralegal Studies, Samford After Sundown, and Teacher Education. The undergraduate division of the Teacher Education department is further divided into two programs – the Early Childhood Education/Special Education/Elementary Collaborative, and Secondary Education. The first program consists of five semesters, or “blocks”; the latter is composed of four blocks, followed by a pre-professional semester, then a student teaching semester. The school also operates the Samford University Instructional Leadership Professional Learning Community.
