Located in Prescott, AZ, Prescott College offers three basic programs: the Resident Degree Program leading to an undergraduate degree in a major area of study; the Adult Degree Program for degree completion; and a graduate program leading to a Master of Arts or a Ph.D. in education. The school emphasizes self-directed and experiential learning and features small class sizes, and is committed to environmentalism. Students may select a distance learning option in the adult degree or master’s programs; Prescott also operates a campus in Tucson. Prescott College was founded in 1966 and has about 750 students.

Teacher Education at Prescott College

Prescott College offers teacher certification in nearly every subject area, with Teacher Education ranking No. 1 on the school’s areas of study. Roughly 100 Prescott students per year earn Arizona state certification through the school’s teacher preparation program, which includes post-baccalaureate programs, through the Adult Degree Program, in Elementary Education; Secondary Education; Early Childhood Education; Early Childhood Special Education; or Special Education in Mental Retardation, Learning Disability, or Serious Emotional Disability. In addition, the College offers a Master of Arts in education and bachelor’s programs in Elementary and Secondary Education. Prescott College is home to the Center for Indian Bilingual Teacher Education, providing an alternative route to licensure for Native Americans.
