Henderson State University is a public, liberal arts university located on a 151-acre campus in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, a small community boasting rivers and lakes. Henderson enrolls just over 3,000 students from 26 states and 21 countries. Students enjoy a student-faculty ratio of 17-to-1, and an average class-size of 30 students. Liberal arts and sciences provide the educational foundation for study at the Henderson, which is also well-known for its teacher education and business administration programs. Students have 55 degree programs from which to choose. In addition to academics Henderson encourages students to become involved in extra-curricular activities, and offers more than 90 student organizations, clubs and sports.
Teacher Education at Henderson State University
Henderson State University is well known as a leader in teacher preparation, once operating strictly as a teacher’s college. Today, the Teachers College at Henderson continues the long tradition of preparing the region’s most respected and sought-after educators. The college is made up of six departments: Advanced Instructional Studies; Counselor Education; Curriculum and Instruction; Educational Leadership; Family and Consumer Sciences; and Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletic Training. Students wanting to enter the teaching profession can choose among the following degree programs in the Curriculum and Instruction Department: Early Childhood (P-4); Middle Level Math/Science (4-8); Middle Level Language Arts/Social Studies (4-8); Business and Technology Education (7-12); and Secondary Education (7-12).
