Azusa Pacific University held its first class in 1900 and has its roots as the first Bible college on the West Coast. Located 26 miles northwest of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley, Azusa offers more than 80 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. Courses are also offered online and at seven regional centers throughout Southern California. The campus is divided into the 52-acre East Campus and the 53-acre West Campus. The school’s athletic department, which competes in the NAIA at the Division I level, holds 28 national titles. Azusa has more than 8,500 enrolled students.
Teacher Education at Azusa Pacific University
The School of Education at Azusa Pacific University is divided into six departments: Advanced Studies in Education, Doctoral Studies in Education, Educational Leadership, School Counseling and School Psychology, Special Education, and Teacher Education. More than 26 graduate degrees are offered throughout the school, including a doctoral program through the Department of Doctoral Studies in Education. Students pursuing their Ed.D. may choose to focus on leadership, teaching and learning, or school psychology. The Department of Educational Leadership prepares students for careers in school administration. Other degrees include a master’s in gifted and talented education and a master’s in school librarianship.
