An add-on certificate in a science field and a passion for sustainable education may open up new career doors for you in Washington State. According to Washington's Office of Public Instruction, the state's schools have prioritized green learning and are even the recipients of an Environmental Protection Agency grant. In addition, there is currently a large science teacher shortage in Washington, with teachers needed in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, and general science, according to the U.S. Department of education. An add-on certificate in science or a related field may help you if you plan to join the state's over 22,000 elementary or 11,700 secondary teachers.

At Seattle Pacific University, teachers can earn an add-on certificate in bilingual education, special education, and library media, among other specialties. The school also offers certificates to those looking to become administrators, counselors or other professionals. At Seattle University, teachers can earn advanced certificates that will prepare them for administrative roles. They can also enroll in a certificate program designed to help them obtain a professional level certificate from the state's Office of Public Instruction.
