Master’s in Education Degree in Oklahoma

Although a master’s degree isn’t required to teach in Oklahoma, having one will increase your pay in the state. Minimum salaries for teachers with a master’s are around $1,500 per year higher than for those with only a bachelor’s degree. While Oklahoma has traditionally ranked near the bottom of the country in teacher pay – the minimum starting pay for a teacher with a bachelor’s degree is $31,600, according to Oklahoma’s state department of education – the cost of living in the state is also low, and teachers there make more than employees in most other professions.

The state, which has an aging teaching population, could be poised to go on a teacher hiring binge in the coming years – nearly half of teachers were over 50 years old in a recent survey, and admissions to teacher education programs at state schools fell by nearly a quarter between 1998 and 2008.
