University of New England

The University of New England is based in Maine, with locations in Biddeford and Portland. The Biddeford campus began as a school for Quebecois immigrants in Maine, and was founded by members of the Franciscan Order. It became a four-year liberal arts college in 1953, merging with Westbrook College in Portland to form the modern University of New England.


Key Features

  • Students at the school can get their bachelor’s degree in elementary and secondary education, as well as teacher certification.
  • More experienced teachers can enroll in the online Master of Science program, in which they will learn instruction and curriculum strategies and educational leadership skills.
  • In conjunction with the bachelor’s and master’s programs, the school offers a "Teaching Institute", a program that immerses students in the real world of teaching and school administration.
  • Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for teacher certification exams in Maine.
