University of Massachusetts-Lowell

The University of Massachusetts Lowell began as two schools, the Lowell Normal School, founded in 1894, and the Lowell Textile School, founded in 1895. The schools merged in 1975 and, in 1991, became part of the University of Massachusetts system. The school serves around 12,000 students and offers more than 120 internships, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and certificate programs. The university has one of the largest continuing studies programs in New England and is nationally recognized for science, engineering, and technology. The Graduate School of Education offers three doctorates, several graduate certificates, and two master’s degree programs. An undergraduate minor in education is also available.

Accreditation

The University of Massachusetts Lowell is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The graduate programs in education are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.
