Boston University

Boston University traces its roots to the Newbury Biblical Institute, which was opened in 1839 by delegates of a Methodist Episcopal conference. When Boston University received its charter in 1869, the renamed Boston Theological Seminary was its first department. That year, the university also opened its divisions to women, the first university to do so. Over the years, the university has become one of the leading research institutions and its faculty includes Nobel and Pulitzer prize winners. Boston University enrolls over 32,000 undergraduate and graduate students in over 250 programs of study. Founded in 1918, the School of Education offers bachelor’s and master’s programs.
